I had a special request this week via Facebook from one of my great followers. She wanted me to give some ideas of how to transition your all black outfits from Summer to Fall. We are having an especially drawn out hot flash at this point, especially here in the South, so I thought that was a great idea for a blog post.

DRESS: Old Loft, Similar: Here--(less than $15), Here (less than $20), Here (less than $50), Here (less than $75), and Here (less than $180) // SHOES: Old Cole Haan, Similar: Here, Here, Here, and Here // NECKLACE: Old, Similar: Here, Here, and Here, BRACELET: Vintage, Similar: Here, Here and Here // EARRINGS: Old, Similar: Here and Here.
One easy way to wear your dark colors and still beat the heat is to wear a shift dress, like the one above, that is sleeveless. This particular dress is a very dark charcoal gray, which I love just about as much as black. It's a great piece to wear to work or even out to dinner. If it's a little chilly at night, I carry along a black cardigan sweater to throw on like this or this. I mean, here in Florida right now, it's seriously in the 90's during the day, so sweater weather, it is not! However, it dips down a little cooler at night. If you need a more dressy style than a sweater, for the office, I suggest throwing on a black blazer like this or this. I've worn this dress to court, depositions, mediation, etc., and it always carries me through.
DRESS: Old Lularoe, Similar: Here, Here (less than $10), and Here // DENIM JACKET: Old Calvin Klein, Similar: Here, Here and Here // BELT: Old, Similar: Here, Here and Here // BOOTS: Old, Similar: Here, Here, Here and Here // NECKLACE: Old, Similar: Here, Here and Here .
For a more casual style, I've put together a short sleeve black knit dress with one of my go-to denim jackets (it's a little on the cropped side) and a brown belt and short boots. This denim jacket was a total investment piece, not that it was expensive, but that it has lasted me so many years. It is at least ten years old, and has remained in style the entire time. Even though I have other denim jackets, I find myself grabbing this one out of the closet the most. This look would be wonderful for a casual night out or even a casual Friday at the office. Bonus, if it gets too hot, just take off the jacket, and the look is still super cute. This dress is fairly fitted, so it looks really cute with the chunky belt.

DeleteI really love a good shift dress, wearing one always makes me feel like Jackie-O! I also love how versatile they are, for me I'm on a budget and I'm trying to get as many uses out of my clothes as possible. I'm totally bookmarking this post, thanks so much sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your sweet comments Gigi. A shift is so perfect because it's great during the summer, and then for Fall/Winter, all you have to do is add a great blazer or sweater, and it's good to go. If you are looking for a super cute blazer at a great price, check out this one from Target. I comes in 4 colors and is on sale for $10.48 right now. >> http://shopstyle.it/l/i7Rk
